No More Natural Teeth: Deciding Between Implants and Dentures

Three Dental Tips For Men

by Jeremiah Barnett

Dental habits and care often differ between men and women. Part of the reason is because statistics have shown that only 49% of men brush their twice a day compared to 56% of women. Also, only 74% of men have a dentist compared to 89% of women. The other difference between men and women is that men are more likely to compete in sports that can cause serious injuries to the mouth. Based on these facts, there are certain dental tips for men to take more seriously. Here are three tips to consider:

Brush Twice a Day:

Since it's shown that not many men brush at least twice a day, it's important to start taking this seriously. Brushing twice a day is the best way to keep bacteria in the mouth at bay. When you brush twice a day, you are much less likely to suffer from any kind of gum disease. Gum disease can take a serious toll on the overall health of your body. You should also consider brushing after every meal, which is another great way to help with both saliva production and rinsing away bacteria and food particles that can cause damage to the gums. If you are not able to brush after every meal, you should at least be rinsing your mouth with water after eating.

Mind Your Teeth When Playing Sports:

Whenever you participate in a high contact sport, such as football, it's important to wear a mouth guard. This way your teeth are protected from serious injury. Even so, you should still visit your dentist after experiencing an injury on the field to double check on the health of your teeth. Any cracks or chipping that has happened will be seen in an x-ray and fixed right away. This way you don't lose any teeth and are able to keep your smile as healthy as possible.

Visit Your Dentist More Often if you Use Tobacco:

Whether you chew tobacco or you smoke, you should be visiting a dentist much more often than just once a year. Since men are more likely to use tobacco compared to women, this is something to take seriously. Tobacco users are much more likely to suffer from gum disease and develop oral cancer. You should be visiting your dentist at least twice a year to ensure that these things are checked for and treated early before it advances.

When you consider these three dental tips, you can be sure that your dental health as a man is much better compared to the average man.
